As you can see from the beautiful pictures below, our day in Sandy Hook and Newtown Connecticut was spectacular. Only an hour and a half away, it was just far enough for a day trip. These towns are filled with magnificent parks, farms, country roads, waterfalls, lakes and a great ice cream place called Holy Cow. Our first stop was Rocky Glen State Preserve with a big waterfall located on the grounds of an old mill with a bridge over a pond. As we drove through these southern New England towns, there is a sophisticated country feel. Located around the corner from the Housatonic River you can see boaters, jet skiers and fisherman. Afterwards, we discovered an old Russian Village established by Russian Immigrants in the early 1900's with street names as Tolstoy Lane. Although there was not much there, we found some old structures that were interesting. Later we bought fresh delicious white corn at Mitchell farm, a beautiful little stop. Before eating dinner, we stopped at Dickinson Park, which is a gem set in the middle of the town. There is everything for any age to enjoy including a mini zip line for kids, skateboarding ramps, tennis courts beautiful playground, wide grassy areas to walk, bridges and more. We ate dinner at the Foundry Kitchen and Tavern, but couldn't leave before stopping at Holy Cow for an ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles, my favorite. Perfect ending.
