Hidden high on a hill in the Poconos is a Greek Orthodox Monastery that you can visit to refresh your soul. Driving up to the entrance is an iron black gate. You put in the code written on the gate and tell them you would like to visit and the doors will open. After going through the gate, you will drive up the steep hill where you will find a parking lot. Walk up the stairs and you will see in front of you beautifully landscaped grounds with flowers, bushes and mediterranean style buildings including the beautiful church where you will be amazed. Below is a photo of the gold adorned church with paintings representing saints and a low hanging chandelier with the light coming through the ceiling. Magnificent! Services are held daily in the church. On the monastery grounds are little brick structures or stations where you can pray or leave flowers. There is a lovely gift shop with books, cards, jewelry and other things to buy. Sisters that live in the monastery maintain the property and are very hospitable and friendly to outsiders. Visit, pray and thank God for this beautiful place.
After visiting the monastery, follow the road down the hill, make a left and have a dessert, meal or coffee at the Powerhouse Eatery. This refurbished historic building used to be an electrical power plant which supplied power to a small campus of buildings that use to be a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients. It's a fun place with industrial decor and serves great dessert and coffee!
