Road trip through Hunterdon & Morris County, New Jersey

Updated: Jul 22, 2019

If you want to spend a day in the country along the riverbanks of the Raritan River, a place Tom Sawyer may have visited, come to these areas in Hunterdon County. Chris and I started in Lebanon township and found the Columbia Trail which leads to the Patriot Trail and and runs through Morristown. This shaded gravel lined path (or trail) is for bike riders or walkers to enjoy. To access the trail, a small parking area can be found in Califon along the Raritan river on Raritan River Road (there are other access areas as well). After exploring the trail, we drove through the historic and quaint Califon where there are a few small stores and a one car bridge leading to Route 513 towards High Bridge. High Bridge is the next historic town to the South when following 513 where Vorhees State Park is located. Vorhees State Park is full of easy to follow trails through the woods with a small scenic overview. Route 513 to the north goes through Long Valley, the home to Ort Farms, Washington Township, and Morris County, home of Alstede Farm and Chester. We found may farm stands along the side of the road and other farms selling honey and other such homemade goodies. A true country experience.
