If you are a history buff and enjoy visiting mansions on the Hudson, this is a place for you and it's not too far from Bergen county. The Vanderbilt Mansion and FDR's House are on the National Historic Site Register. The Vanderbilt Mansion with its opulence brings you back to the Gilded Age. It sits on manicured grounds located on the banks of the Hudson River. FDR's House, known as Springwood, is not as old, but its historic relevance containing FDR's library, garden and carriage house will leave an impression on you. There is an entrance fee for these two places but I think they are both worth visiting. As a side note, the Culinary Institute of America is located nearby both of these places.
