Walking Tour of Hope Township, NJ: A Moravian Village established 1769

On their way to New England, a natural stop over was a pleasant area known as Green's Land (which is currently now Hope, NJ). The Moravians purchased 1,000 acres of this land for 1,000 British pounds. Hope, NJ was one of America's first planned communities. On February 8, 1775 the name of the settlement was changed from Greenland to Hope. You can experience the rich history of this Moravian village by taking the walking tour. We picked up a brochure of the walking tour at the antique store in the center of town. The brochure explains each of the 34 historic structures along tour. Below are the some of the buildings we saw on the tour, which were the original buildings from the 1700's built by the Moravians. Hope is the cutest town, so quaint with bridges, creeks, old mills, distilleries, farm houses and antique stores. It took about an hour or so and was such a wonderful day. I would recommend you take a step back in history and enjoy the Moravian village of Hope, NJ.
