Washington Rock State Park has a beautiful view of Staten Island and Manhattan and holds historical significance. Located off Washington Rock Road, the very small park has the American Flag as its landmark and behind it a beautiful view. During the Revolutionary War, George Washington was able to see the coming troops and make critical decisions in the war leading to victory at this very park. After stopping at the park, we drove down the hill to Watchung Pond where we walked around the bucolic, lake. lilly pads, bamboo, fountains, benches, bridges and water spills are all found at Watchung Pond. This picturesque park runs through the town of Watchung. Afterwards, we stopped for ice cream at Zita's, it was a refreshing afternoon.
